Community members are invited to apply to serve on the Recreation, Arts and Parks Tax Advisory Committee (RAP TAC). The City of Moab has an opening for one at-large committee member. This position will fill a vacancy for a term that ends December 2024.
The application for the RAP Tax Advisory Committee is available online at moabcity.org/RAP or moabcity.org/RAPTAC. Applications are due February 18 and can be emailed to raptac@moabcity.org or delivered to City Hall, 217 E. Center St. in Moab. RAPTAC members are appointed by the mayor.
“Being on the RAP TAC Committee is a fantastic way to assist the City of Moab’s Parks and Recreation Department in supporting many of the great nonprofit organizations in our community, said City Parks, Recreation and Trails Director Brianna Bowker. “The committee serves the important role of reviewing applications for the RAP Tax Community Grants and making recommendations for funding to the Moab City Council.”
In 2020, voters approved the RAP Tax – a one-tenth of 1 percent sales tax on eligible sales and uses within Moab City limits. Unprepared food items and fuel are exempt from the tax. RAP Tax revenues can only be used for recreational, cultural, arts and parks programs and facilities provided by the city, or by qualifying nonprofit groups.
The City typically sets aside a portion of the revenue for RAP Tax Community Grants, which help fund qualifying projects proposed by local nonprofit groups.
