Community members are encouraged to attend a Nov. 1 open house to learn about the City of Moab Sustainability Action Plan and provide input and perspectives on identified goals and strategies to
help shape Moab’s sustainable future.
The open house will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Center, 182 North 500 West.
During the event, residents can review the results of a September sustainability survey and provide their thoughts and ideas about the draft strategies that are under consideration so far. Additional information about the Sustainability Action Plan process, timeline and goals is available on the City of Moab’s community engagement portal – engagemoab.com.
“We’re looking forward to receiving input from as many residents as possible,” said Alexi Lamm, the city’s sustainability director. “We’re working to create a sustainability action plan for everyone in our community and broad input is important to that effort.”
The Moab community has a long history of environmental stewardship and sustainability. In 2004, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized Moab as the first Green Power Community. Since then, the city has adopted and worked toward greenhouse gas reduction and 100 percent renewable electricity goals. The city has also integrated efficiency and renewable electricity in its own operations, achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for Moab City Center and installing solar panels on several city buildings.
“The Sustainability Action Plan will create an actionable work plan to reinforce existing sustainability efforts and possibly help us identify new opportunities,” Lamm said.
The plan is expected to be completed and submitted to the Moab City Council for consideration by the end of the year.
