Located in downtown Moab at 400 North and 100 West, is a 7-acre park with a large playground, two barbecue grills, covered picnic tables, a covered pavilion, lots of wide open green space and big, old shade trees. The park is named for former Moab resident Swanny Kirby who originally owned the land. In earlier years, before being acquired by the City, the park was used as a rodeo ground and fairground. Swanny City Park is the location of Moab's Recreation and Aquatic Center and Skate Park. There are public restrooms and drinking fountains.
Only the pavilion can be reserved and rented for private events. All other areas of the park are available on a first-come, first-served basis for individual and family picnics, parties, etc.
Special events held at Swanny City Park require permits and fees. “Special event” typically means a sporting, cultural, entertainment, commercial, or similar gathering, whether held for profit or on a nonprofit basis, occurring for a limited or fixed duration, not to exceed fifteen consecutive days, and which is likely to attract a large number of participants or spectators. This might include concerts, fairs, rallies, athletic events, or temporary sales events.
For information about scheduling a special event, contact the Moab City Special Event Facilitator (events@moabcity.gov), or call 435-259-5121.
