Curbside Trash & Recycling Services

The City of Moab offers a recycling service option as part of the City’s waste-hauling contract with Canyonlands Solid Waste Authority. While trash service is mandatory in the City of Moab, the recycling service is not mandatory -- residential customers have the choice to opt out of recycling, while commercial customers can opt into the recycling program.

Please Note: Trash and recycling services are provided through a contract with Canyonlands Solid Waste Authority. Questions about or issues with existing services should be directed to them at 435-259-6314.

Please visit the Canyonlands Solid Waste Authority information page  for trash and recycling collection schedules, including holidays, and for a list of accepted single-stream recycling materials.

HOW DOES RECYCLING WORK?

The City’s curbside recycling service is single-stream recycling, which means all recyclable materials are placed into one bin by customers and transported to a materials sorting facility (MRF) where the recycling is sorted by type of material.

WHY RECYCLE?

The Moab City Council established ambitious carbon reduction goals in 2017. Nationally, emissions from municipal solid waste account for approximately 14% of methane gas emissions.

Estimates show that the hauling, disposal, and storage of unrecycled material within Moab City accounts for approximately 10% to 12% of the City’s overall greenhouse gas emissions.

The current landfill diversion rate of less than 13% is well below the national rate of 35%, and per capita trash volumes exceed the national average by nearly 50%. Significantly increasing the amount of material diverted from the landfill results in less greenhouse gas emissions and a smaller carbon footprint.
